Canon Lens 8-15mm F4L Fisheye Hire

The New Canon 8-15mm f/4L USM lens now available for Hire or Rental The 26th August 2010, Canon presented the world’s first fisheye zoom lens, ‘the lens that nobody was expecting’. The canon EF 8-15mm has an extreme wide-angle focal range and offers both circular and full frames images providing a circular 8mm fisheye at one end, and zooming to a 15mm fisheye at the other end, this is the latest addition to Canon’s acclaimed L-series range of professional lenses.

The Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L USM replaces the original EF 15mm f2.8 fisheye. The 15mm is an old design that pre-dated digital crop sensors. Canon had never released a lens that was wide enough to be a full 180mm fish eye until now.

When the Canon EF 8-15mm F/4 L is paired with Canon’s full-frame DSLR bodies, such as the EOS 5DMK II or the EOS – 1Ds Mark III, professional photographers can choose to capture circular or full-frame fisheye images, allowing them to view a scene in a completely fresh and unique way. The focal length provides a full 180 degrees of view on both 1.6 and 1.3 crop which means this level of choice provides enhances creative flexibility when taking photos of a scene such as a dark skyline.

The new L-series lens features a zoom-lock mechanism, which allows the range to be limited to a focal length, ensuring the best possible full-frame view without unattractive vignetting around the edge. ‘C’ and ‘H’ are marked on the operating ring, indicating the wide-angle zoom position where vignetting-free shooting is possible with both sensors.

Strong light sources can cause ghosting and flaring and can be a particular challenge when shooting at such a wide angle, Canons new lens has been constructed to manage all these situations, covered with a Super Spectra Coating. The internal surface of the front element also features Canon’s sub wavelength Structure coating (SWC), which uses tiny cone-like structures, smaller than the wavelength of the visible light on the surface of the lens element, to gradually slow light down until it is at the same speed as it travels through glass, resulting with removing the risk of flare occurring before the light reaches the sensor.

To maintain optimum image quality, the front and rear lens elements also feature a fluorine coating which actively deter water, dust and dirt, making it much easier to clean the lens and leaving it unhindered by particles.

The Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L fisheye USM is available to buy from January 2011, priced at £1499.99, it has proven to be especially popular in the hire/rental industry. The new Canon lens offers a fresh take on sporting action or architecture shots, whilst the f/4.0 constant aperture allows faster shutter speeds to be employed for natural looking-images in low light.

The EF 8-15mm f/4L fisheye USM showcases over 70 years of Canon’s optical engineering heritage, boasting 14 lens elements in 11 different groups. Canon has successfully transformed the entire dynamic of what’s possible with a fisheye lens. Long regarded as a super specialized lens for only occasional use, the Canon EF 8-15mm f/4 L USM’S striking versatility makes it a significant and compelling option for a broad variety of photographer’s. It is a lens that should find its way into the camera bags of many different photographers and maybe your if you hire or rent the Canon 8-15mm fisheye here.
