If you're looking to hire or rent the Sony NX5 you will find it has so much to offer. The NX5 is the first Sony camcorder to have the professional AVCHD this redefines the performance, it records stunning quality 1920 x 1080 images at 24Mbps (50i or 25p) it also supports 720/50p and the Standard Definition recording. This Sony camcorder also has one of Sony's "G Lenses" and Exmor technology which provides excellent resolution, colour and contrast and also works exceptionally well in low light conditions.
The Sony NX5 has AVCHD recording which is an affordable and reliable available consumer for memory cards. You can use two 32GB SD cards and the NX5 can record six hours of HD footage which can be further extended by simply swapping the cards over. The Hybrid HD/SD recording is supported by a unique, optional 128GB Flash Memory Unit which is called the HXR-FMU128, this unit can offer 11 hours of HD recording time at 24Mbps.
The Sony "G Lens" on the NX5 provides out standing picture quality and versatility with a wide angle 29.5mm which is equivalent to 35mm film and a also has a 20x high quality zoom. The Six-blade iris diaphragm is almost circular which enables creation of extremely beautiful background blur. The iris ring which is located next to the zoom ring allows all users to adjust the exposure with great precision. The zoom function on the NX5 is variable and can be controlled by using the lens barrel ring, once you have selected a high speed zoom mode, you can then zoom from wide to telephoto 1.5x faster than the HVR-V1E. There are also three built in ND filters (Neutral Density) 1/4, 1/16 and 1/64, these are there to help vary the depth of field with the iris control.
The Exmor CMOS Sensor is to create sharp images with a higher resolution and less noise even when shooting in really low light conditions, the Exmor CMOS sensor has a ClearVid array which is to ensure high resolution, high sensitivity, a wide dynamic range and an excellent colour reproduction. Exmor technology can eliminate the influence of external noise that enters the signal chain during transfer to the A/D converter which results in high-quality digital signals with extremely low noise. This enhances shooting in very low light environments with a sensitivity of just 1.5 lux (1/25 shutter, auto iris and an auto gain).
AVCHD is a highly efficient data compression format which reduces memory requirements by maximising the benefits of file-based recording with a high image quality in a small file size. The AVCHD is also ideal for memory recording, the NX5 introduces a new feature which supports seamless, continuous recording between two memory card slots. For example, you can insert both 32GB memory cards which record six hours of continuous HD footage each, then once the first card's memory is full it will then switch over to the second memory card recording for another 6 hours, the first cards footage is then saved and you can safely eject the card, inserting a new card and this procedure can be repeated for as long as necessary.
MPEG-2 is for Standard definition recording. This is the same compression codec as a standard DVD-VIDEO disc. This is easily edited in most NLE's and is ideal for delivery using the DVD-VIDEO discs. The NX5 also provides a choice of two audio recording formats. 1) Dolby Digital Stereo or 2) Linear PCM stereo. In addition to conventional Steady Shot Technology the HVR NX5 features Active Steady Shot Technology and this provides superior stabilisation which reduces hand-held camera shake and has improved stabilisation which allows the user to concentrate more on the shot and composition rather than worrying about how to stabilise the camera. How ever depending on your situation and what are you are shooting the user can choose from either format.
The NX5 features a 3.2inch-type XtraFine LCD Touch Panel with approximately 921,000 pixels (1920x480) and has a higher resolution which allows easier focus adjustment. This LCD displays virtually 100% of the recorded picture area at a colour temperature of approximately 6500K. The touch screen panel has a Visual Index Button which makes it easy to browse all of your footage you have recorded, the settings are easily adjustable by touch screen operation, it is also possible to use buttons and switches so that users can choose which is best for any specific shooting situation.
The EVF which is the Electronic View Finder has approximately 1,227,000 pixels (852x3[RGB] x 480). This device has three independent LED's for Red, Green and Blue colours which allow all users to monitor objects which have a remarkable colour reproduction accuracy and a high resolution. This EVF system has a selectable display mode and you can choose between colour or black and white. Also on the NX5 there is a variety of flexible interfaces. You have an HD-SDI interface which allows you to connect to a high end video editing system with a single BNC cable. There are no conversion boxes which are needed and the output is compressed which provides the highest picture quality. HDMI interface allows all easy connection to a consumer HD display, while TC link enables two camcorders to be connected with a standard mini-plug cable so that the time codes can be synchronised.
